Barbara Katz Commission

I am very happy to work on commission. I complete several portrait commissions each year, both the formal variety such as Judges and Clergy, but also family subjects. I also paint scenes of farms and homes, a favorite pony or winning racehorse. Dogs are a favorite subject, gun dogs or lap dogs as needed. Murals are another specialty, Hunt and Racing scenes done on canvas and then glued to the walls. A favorite form of portrait is the Conversation Piece which usually depicts family members in a setting such as a favorite room.

The commission process begins with a conversation to help determine the size and subject. I can then quote a price based on the scale and complexity of the subject. After that, sketches from life and photos are taken and the design is developed for comment. Life sittings are most desirable for portraits if practical, but the painting then proceeds to completion with your review along the way.
